There are few kitchen appliances that I could not do without, but my slow cooker is definitely one of those.  It makes it so easy to have a hot, home cooked and delicious meal ready for the family with the minimum of fuss and effort.

Slow cookers come in many different sizes, from the mini 1.5 litre capacity designed for 1 person cooking, to the generous 6.5 litre capacity which is perfect for large families or for feeding guests.  Try not to go for a larger size than you need, as cooking with the slow cooker nearly full is the optimum way to use your appliance.

Slow cookers are simple by nature, and don't have lots of gadgets or extra bits, they just don't need it.  Most have high, low and auto settings, which is all you need.  The majority of slow cookers have a removable pot, so you can take it to the table and serve directly from the pot, and to make cleaning easy.  Some slow cookers have pots which can be used on your cooker top or oven as well, which can be handy depending on what you want to cook.

Slow cookers are low energy appliances, so are safe to leave switched on while you are out of the house.  They are also economical, so don't worry that they will use too much power .... they won't.
